The pleasant village of Nieuwe Niedorp lies at the heart of Holland North of Amsterdam, surrounded by green countryside and water. As you enter the village, the slightly off-kilter church tower catches the eye immediately. It towers above the landscape full of traditional farmhouses, green meadows, channels and canals. It is no surprise that you can hire boats beside the water at De Rijd. Bring along a picnic basket and enjoy exploring the surroundings.
A bright colour palette in September
Apart from its abundant greenery, Nieuwe Niedorp transforms into a bright colour palette during Floralia, which is always held on a weekend in mid September. Beautiful workpieces and mosaics made of dahlias decorate the fore ditch in the village and there are street theatre and music performances throughout the weekend. Do you like old motorcycles? Then you'll probably find the time to view the two hundred and seventy-five motorbikes in the museum. They also have a section with authentic little shops from grandmother's days.
Tip: come in August (usually the 3rd weekend), when the village takes part in the ‘Nazomeren’ event. Visit a wealth of gardens, expositions, art exhibitions and music and theatre performances held at over 100 locations in 9 local villages
